The minutes of the 125th AGM of the Barrow Chess Club held at the British Legion Club, Holker Street, Barrow-in-Furness on 26th August 2009

Dave Cole opened the meeting and the minutes of the 124th A.G.M. were read and accepted.
CHAIRMANS REPORT.
Dave Cole reported that club matters were ok. Nationally, an update had been applied to the Grading system meaning most players’ grades have gone up. Also grading limits in various events will have adjusted. County games this season would be played on a one day Jamboree A new FIDA rule regarding players not present at the start of play would be ignored in Cumbria. The Chess for schools imitative has started with sets available to schools taking part. The county championships will be in Grange this season. E C F membership has risen, but Cumbria have reduced the fee and will covered it by refunding the rebate.Adverts are to be be placed in local newspapers to try to encourage new players
Trevor Blower reported that this year’s membership was down to 22 adults. 3 teams played in the Cumbria league with 5 members playing for Ulverston. The A team came 3rd in Division 1. The B team came 5th & the C team came 3rd.in Div 2. Ulverston were 4th. 3 teams played in the Whitaker Trophy with the C team losing to Austin Friars in the final. Barrow lost on board count to Wallesey in the NCCU club Championships, 7 players had played for Cumbria against Lancashire and Yorkshire.
George Horne reported that there is a surplus of £19.83 for the year. The ECF Registrations differ as one member failed to pay his subscription. Trophy and engraving fees are high as the ladder trophy was updated with the ten missing years H recommended the subscriptions stay at £24.00 for the coming season.
LIBRARIANS REPORT
Jim Woodburn had taken over the Library duties and said things were in order.
Trevor Blower reported that the new Major competition was aborted and we reverted to a 14 game set up as before. Most players had 14 games with just a few defaults. The rest of the competitions had run ok.
Matthew Mackenzie said he would like to re-enter the major competition and stated that he would need to start his games early. This was accepted.

It was decided to enter three teams in Cumbria
Mark Houlsby donated a “new” book for the library. Trevor Blower mentioned that the Web site price had risen, and that a deal had been worked out with Alan Llewellyn to carry on with it. Members were encouraged to submit articles and games to Alan for inclusion on the web
